Biomass incorporation in asphalt manufacturing towards less emissions of CO2

LIFE BATTLE CO2

European LIFE Project

LIFE14 CCM/ES/000404

Road surfacing with asphalt mixes requires the use of a heat source that reduces the viscosity of bitumen so that the assembly formed by aggregates and bituminous binder has adequate workability.

Traditionally manufacturing plants use heat sources coming from non-renewable energy sources  (fuel and gas) which significantly increases the environmental impact of paving process.

The Battle CO2 project seeks to integrate the manufacturing process by making use of biomass as a heat source and integrating the manufacturing process and job sites with the proximity to the points of supply of renewable energy, such as biomass.
